It’s no secret that I love dressing up my french bulldog, Pierre — probably because he’s always mean muggin’ and will do anything for a treat. That being said, my husband (still so weird to say that!) is a suuuuper Star Wars fan, so wanted to make him something special for our first holiday together as a married couple. So, what better way to a man’s heart than through his dog (and Star Wars)? I created a Star Wars calendar of his favorite french bulldog dressed as all of the Star Wars characters. Of course I had to spill the beans about his gift a little early so that I could write this post [in time for the new Star Wars movie debut December 18th], but totally worth it. I first shot the photos on a white background, then my mentor Pete helped me cut them out in Photoshop (I’m a lightroom girl!), then I superimposed them into some of the iconic Star Wars scenes. The result: hilarity (and taking my crazy dog lady ways to a new level).

K & L // Hoboken Lifestyle Waterfront Engagement Session

Whenever a friend asks me to do their photos, I of course feel very honored, but also incredibly nervous. There’s something about knowing a person’s response to your photography [more than just a kind email from a client thanking me] — you know, seeing which photos they use on social media, if they use your photos for a save the date, etc, etc…that makes it all feel a little more personal.

But then, on the other hand, when you get to work with one of your best friends and her husband-to-be during the photoshoot, it is an amazing experience — since you know how strong their love for each other is and how they came to be. That was my experience with one of my dearest friends, Lani, and her fiancé, Kenny, during their Hoboken waterfront engagement shoot.

Aren’t they just darling? Well, we had an hour to work with our sunset lighting [Kenny had to work late], and I put them to work. Here are a few of my favorites from our 60 minute session — yes, it CAN be done!

Lan & Ken wanted to do a few shots by the “150 Years of Hoboken” sign since they live in Hoboken, so we did, right before the sun went completely down — I was a bit worried that they wouldn’t come out, but bump up the ISO and you’re in business! There were too many good ones to choose from, even from an hour of shooting, so I tried to just skim through and pick my favorites. Hope you enjoyed!

Baby C // 3 Month Hoboken Photoshoot // Lifestyle Session

Category: Babies, Family Photography, Family Photoshoot, Hoboken Photographer | Date: | Author:

Often new parents reach out before [or shortly thereafter] their little one is born requesting newborn photos. While I love doing photos on a wee little one, I have discovered that I absolutely LOVE the photosessions that are around 3 months of age. Babies at this age still have that sleepy, newborn aspect to them but are more alert and able to show their big beautiful eyes and smiles = win/win. So if you’re worried that you missed your chance for a newborn shoot, don’t fret.  Baby C’s recent session is here to prove that 3 month shoots are just as special, if not more so:

Such a love. See what I mean? Next time you have a baby [which I know doesn’t happen very often], make sure that you don’t beat yourself up about not rushing to get newborn photos. Sometimes the wait is totally worth it!

A & A // Hoboken Train Station Engagement Photosession

Category: Engagement Photography Session | Date: | Author:
IMG_29302-1024x689

The couple that freezes outside during a shoot stays together.

My new mantra. It’s not often that I know the couples that I shoot before the actual shoot [even though I feel like I learn a ton about them during the shoot], but in this case, I had the pleasure of shooting my good friend Alexandra and her fiancé Anthony in Hoboken — and we had a blast. They wanted a mix of a “Hoboken feel” as well as some waterfront photography with some of the skyline in the background.

Hoboken Engagement Photographer Train Station New Jersey PhotoshootWe started our engagement photoshoot in the Hoboken train station  [since walking from our cars to the train station was already insanely cold we figured being indoors first was best]– and randomly found ourselves outside by the train tracks. Lo and behold, the money shot: tracks 10 & 9 — which happened to be Alexandra & Anthony’s wedding date of 10/9/15 next year. Talk about serendipity.

You’d think the rest of the shoot would downhill from that kind of high point, but I was just blown away by the rest of the shoot — most likely because they are absolutely adorable together and so photogenic.

Hoboken Engagement Photographer Train Station New Jersey Photoshoot

Hoboken Engagement Photographer Train Station New Jersey PhotoshootA few black and whites in the train station whilst dodging the locals who were trying to find a place to sit and be warm was challenging, but we pulled it off! I saw the high window and couldn’t help myself — needed to capture this shot with the windows and couple:

Deciding between posting the color version or the black and white version of this image was incredibly difficult — I loved black and white too, but something about this golden light just wowed me. Aren’t they adorable?

A few more of my favorites from our shoot — it was so cold out, but Alexandra was such a trooper, even in open-toed shoes in January!

I can’t help but feature one more of the train station, because I seriously couldn’t believe our luck that morning:

7 Tips to Make Your Family Photoshoot Successful

Category: Children Photography, Family Photography, Photography Tips | Date: | Author:
IMG_6625a2

I have many family photoshoots annually, and I really enjoy each family that I work with. It is so fun to capture a unique snapshot [no pun intended] of a day in the life of a family –whether it be a family of three or seven! However, there are some things I have learned along the way after my years of professional shoots, and I thought I should share this knowledge with my clients and friends. Some of these will be obvious, but just a few thoughts from the peanut gallery while editing on this rainy day, in the form of tips to make your holiday photoshoot a success:

IMG_6625a2

1. Let the photographer work his/her magic. No set director needed, unless your child needs to be redirected back to his or her spot. I promise you’re in good hands!

christening jennifer casson photo

2. Bring ammo. Snacks, a blanket, a noisy (attention-grabbing) toy, a potential change of clothes [in case of spit-up, etc], and bribes. You’d be surprised what kids will do knowing that there is an ice cream treat in their future…

IMG_4324

3. Don’t stand to the side of the photographer trying to get your child’s attention. Your child will then look to the side instead of at me! Instead, stand right behind my head. Usually a rattle or something noisy does the trick.

20141025-IMG_9983-2

4. Before the shoot, get together a pin board of a few “inspirational” shots so your photographer can get an idea of your style. It doesn’t mean these will be exactly recreated, but at least he/she will know what you like. If they’re a cool and confident photographer, they won’t be offended and will find it helpful to get insight into your likes and dislikes!

IMG_2008a

5. Have “low” expectations: many times parents come in with a list of 10-15 must have shots, and depending on the age of your child, this may not be totally possible (even though I’ll do my best)! Children usually last between 15-45 minutes max (sometimes longer, but not often!).

IMG_8492a

6. Remember that even the most “candid” looking shots are usually staged. Even when it looks completely natural (as most of my shoots’ goals are to be), some posing and redirecting has to happen in order for you to look your best.

20140819-IMG_6879

7. Have fun! You’re creating memories with your family, whether you end up using the photos them for your holiday cards or not… Make sure the experience is a happy one, and don’t take yourself too seriously :)

Lovely Happenings | Lifestyle Photoshoot

Sisters Jaclyn & Rachael of Lovely Happenings, a new lifestyle workshop events company, hung out with me all day one Sunday back in August. Our goals was to create a number of beautiful scenes for their new website and brand. We cooked, baked, painted, applied lipstick, and did a bunch of other fun and girly things that bring friends together = my heaven. I am very excited for the debut of their new website, but before that happens, figured I’d post some previews of our day…especially because I’m still dreaming about that no-bake oreo cookie pie!

6 Month Portraits | Baby A

Cino6month-151-1024x682

It is always fun to watch babies grow — especially when you haven’t seen them since they were itty bitty teeny weeny. That’s why I was so excited to see baby A and her parents for a shoot on Pier A in Hoboken recently. She had just turned 6 months, and so it was great to see how much she’d grown since being only 14 days old at our last [newborn lifestyle] shoot.

Per usual, it was very hard to narrow down my favorites…especially since she is at the perfect, smiley, happy-go-lucky age where you only need one or two frames to get a “good one.” Here are a few of my favorites of this adorable family of three:

And one of my favorites [because I love when babies are less than pleased about their photoshoot] — something so ‘organic’ about it:

It was a pleasure hanging with this family in Hoboken. Such a little doll baby! Can’t wait to watch this little one grow up!

Business [Lifestyle] Session: Tiffany Pinero Style

Category: Business Lifestyle, Hoboken Photographer, Hoboken Portrait Photographer, New Jersey Photographer, Portrait | Date: | Author:
IMG_4925-1024x682

While I always adore working with my wonderful families and documenting beautiful wide-eyed babies’ growth and joy during a lifestyle family session, I’ve realized I have come across a new* passion. I add an asterisk because headshots and photosessions with adults for me is nothing new, but recently I have started to have a different approach to showcasing entrepreneurs, business owners, and creatives. The fun is being able to focus on their talents and making it more than your typical headshot…filled with life, style, joy, and creativity: in their element, if you will.

That was exactly the goal of a recent shoot with Tiffany Pinero of Tiffany Pinero Style… a fashion stylist based in Hoboken.

Tiffany Pinero Style

Before the shoot, Tiffany and I discussed her goals and the “look” she was going for. She told me she had a Diana Ross-esque skirt from Mint Market in Hoboken mixed with some neutrals + some pink tuxedo pants later on. Style books + her office + a few luxury shopping bags would be some supporting props, with this brown-eyed beauty as the focus.

Here are a few photos from our shoot:

IMG_4925

The spread on Tiff’s desk…all of the stylist essentials, of course.

IMG_4855-2

See what I mean about the Diana Ross skirt? Amazing.

IMG_4777

We opted for a natural light setting, since Tiff’s windows are extremely large and flooded with light. Isn’t she a stunner?

IMG_4833

Next on our list list was a little outdoor fun. Bouquets + Tiff’s style books, and we were in business!

IMG_4994

IMG_4974

IMG_4941 IMG_4957 IMG_4958

This gorgeous babe and business woman cannot be stopped! It was such a pleasure to work with her…and literally IMPOSSIBLE to narrow down photos to use in this post. My goal is always to showcase personality and the happiness from within as well as the external… and Tiff was such an easy subject!

IMG_5072

If only we had more time to play; next on Tiff’s list would be a rolling rack of clothing by the waterfront. Oh, it’s on soon, girlfriend :)

If you’re in need of a style session, wardrobe rejuvenation, shopping help, or commercial shoot styling, Tiff is your girl! Check out this beautiful brunette’s website here.

It was not hard to find some beautiful images to present to you from a recent shoot with this beautiful family. The D Family got dressed up in their Saturday best for a joint sibling birthday party in Hoboken.

We found some beautiful back alleys in Hoboken to photograph a recount of Mrs. D’s amazingly crafty and pinterest-inspired mustache party for her little boys. The party itself took place at the Local Barre downtown {a post coming soon with photographs of those amazing “barretenders”}. It was hard to pick favorites for this blog post because of how many amazing captures we got…all in a 5 foot by 5 foot area in a back alley of our town :)

Enjoy!
